About the job 

Our Protection Unit is hiring a proactive and competent Detention Field Officer to support its detention-related activities in Kyiv. This role focuses on promoting humane treatment and improving living conditions for detainees. The Detention Field Officer will be instrumental in implementing activities aligned with the delegation’s strategic framework, objectives, and operational plans. Key functions include fostering collaborative relationships with authorities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen partnerships between the ICRC, government institutions, and international actors. The Detention Field Officer will also monitor, assess, and report on detention-related initiatives to ensure consistency, impact, and alignment with humanitarian principles.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the detention team to organize and coordinate activities with authorities and key stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and alignment with ICRC objectives
• Monitor and analyze security, socio-economic, cultural, and political developments impacting detention issues, providing timely reports and insights on significant changes
• Support the design, execution, and management of detention-related projects, ensuring administrative tasks are completed accurately and all deadlines are met
• Contribute to drafting and preparing comprehensive reports, meeting minutes, and detailed workshops, seminars, and key meeting summaries
• Assist in planning and delivering seminars, workshops, and training sessions on detention issues, facilitating effective knowledge sharing and capacity building
• Actively engage in detention field activities, including preparation, on-site support, and post-activity follow-up to ensure successful implementation and impact
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with local authorities, communities, and external partners to enhance the effectiveness of detention initiatives

About you

To be successful as a Detention Field Officer in the Protection Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree or relevant professional experience
• Typically, 2 -3 years of professional experience in a relevant field, such as social, political or economic sciences 
• Experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian organization is an asset
• Professional fluency (written and oral) in English and Ukrainian
• Computer literate, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
