Medici per i Diritti Umani - MEDU    is an international humanitarian organization committed to delivering quality health and mental health support to vulnerable populations affected by conflict and crisis. In Ukraine, we are implementing programs focused on primary healthcare, psychosocial support, and mental health services in both urban and rural areas affected by the ongoing conflict. 

Position Summary

MEDU is seeking a MEDIATOR to conduct the MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) activities of a project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) to support the Ukrainian population.

Role: MEDIATOR

Duty station: Dnipro

Contract terms:  6 month continuous and coordinated collaboration agreement + renewable option for additional 6 months. FOP Contract

Salary: 1300-1500 EUROS - defined on the basis of the candidate's experience  

Starting date:  May 2026

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

In collaboration with and under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the MHPSS Coordinator, the Clinical Coordinator and in close cooperation with the MHPSS team, the Mediator will carry out the following responsibilities and activities: 

• Organization of events, conferences, meetings. 

• Provide     oral interpretation between English and Ukrainian during trainings, workshops, meetings, and clinical supervisions, ensuring accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate communication between international trainers/supervisors and Ukrainian participants. 

• Translate     written materials from English into Ukrainian (and vice versa when required), including training slides, manuals, supervision tools, reports, and other educational or project-related documents. 

• Support international staff by facilitating communication with local professionals and project staff during project-related activities. 

• Collaborate with the MHPSS team and trainers to ensure that translated content is contextually appropriate and consistent with technical terminology used in mental health and psychosocial support. 

• Participate in preparatory meetings related to trainings and supervisions, as required. 

• Contribute to the preparation of activity reports by providing translated inputs when needed. 

• Participate in team coordination meetings, when relevant to interpretation or translation tasks 

• Assist the Project Coordinator and Clinical Coordinator with translation of project-related documentation, including administrative, legal, and technical documents, as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent knowledge of English and Ukrainian (spoken and written), with proven ability to provide accurate interpretation and translation
• Adherence to humanitarian principles, including neutrality, impartiality, and respect for confidentiality
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate dialogue between diverse stakeholders
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international team
• Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Availability to travel in the regions of Dnipro, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv
• Proficient in coordinating and organizing their own work-flow

OTHER DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

• Previous work experience with non-profit organizations, particularly in the socio-health or mental health field
• Familiarity with MHPSS terminology and approaches
• Prior experience in interpretation/translation in humanitarian or development contexts
• Experience working with vulnerable populations affected by conflict or crisis
• Knowledge of the Italian language is an asset
