Description
The Remote Sensing Officer (SAR Analyst) will process and analyse imagery from a range of remote sensing sources, focusing on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensor data. The SAR analyst will apply advanced Remote Sensing techniques and develop algorithms to extract features of interest (trenches and fighting positions that may indicate the presence of mines). They will produce information products for use by HALO’s survey and clearance teams in the field. The role is primarily office based.
Requirements
- Ukrainian citizen
- Fluent spoken and written Ukrainian.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Familiarity with the Esri suite of products, such as ArcGIS Pro .
- Proficiency in processing and analysing satellite (EO, IR, MS, SAR) data, from different remote sensing sources .
- Proficiency with software such as ENVI, SNAP, Google Earth Engine, Erdas Imagine, Remote View, Socket GXP
- Strong programming skills in Python (arcpy, rasterio, geo/pandas, opencv, xgboost) required, or other programming languages such as IDL or R desirable
Responsibilities - Request and download Satellite imagery and SAR data to meet collection requirements
- Process Satellite and UAV sensor data (optical (EO), Infrared (IR), Multispectral (MS), LIDAR, SAR) using Remote Sensing techniques, to identify and capture features of interest and create information products.
- Conduct research projects to improve remote sensing methodologies and applications, capturing different features from different sensor types.
- Develop algorithms and techniques for image classification and feature extraction.
- Analysis of high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery to identify explosive objects and indicators of minefields.
- Collaborate with other operations departments to develop remote sensing capture and processing capabilities.
Nice to have
- University degree in Remote Sensing, Physics, GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields; OR equivalent, relevant experience analysing imagery (including military or intelligence contexts)
