HelpAge International has been present in Ukraine since 2014 with a total workforce of +250 people including staff and volunteers/contractors.  As one of the few INGOs with an operational presence in Ukraine, we were able to respond quickly to the current Ukraine crisis with initial life-saving activities in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions and are scaling up assistance in the Central and Western Regions of Ukraine.  Our response plan includes cash assistance, food distributions, NFI distribution/ health and dignity kits, WASH, Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial First Aid. 

We are seeking passionate, talented candidates for several roles to further strengthen our country team.  

 Key areas for impact/influence and responsibilities:

 The Security Officer will, under the supervision of the Security Manager, be responsible for providing all necessary support on safety and security issues to HelpAge Ukraine as well as for all personnel who are visiting the area of HelpAge program implementation. Please note that due to the needs of program the assignment locations for this role may change to other HelpAge program locations within Ukraine. 

The Security Officer will provide support.  

  • Provide ongoing advice on safety and security to HelpAge employees and social workers of HelpAge in Ukraine.
  • Ensure good communication of security relevant information in each location including various field sites and offices, travelling to field locations as required.
  • Maintain oversight of staff work-related travel in their geographic area of responsibility, providing relevant security updates prior to travel as required.
  • Work with the Security Manager to monitor the security environment and adjust security policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Develop good relationships with all local stakeholders including representatives of local authorities, local and international NGOs.
  • Support all staff and volunteers to understand and comply with HelpAge security guidelines, providing training and updates as required.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with HAI social workers and act as a point of contact for gathering localized security information.
  • Brief all new staff and visitors on security procedures and current context at their location.
  • Ensure safety equipment such as fire extinguisher expiry dates monitored and refilled; ensure first aid kits are adequately stocked and appropriately placed.
  • Serve as first contact point for any security related issues in geographic area.
  • Conduct security assessment of all areas proposed for activities.
  • Provide feedback to field staff in response to security-related inquiries.
  • Provide regular(daily/weekly) security update for staff.
  • Work as a positive team member and contribute to the objectives of HAI.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

You will be someone with:  

Essential

  • Previous experience in security management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear advice, write reports and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to use own initiative to make quick decisions with sound judgement.
  • Demonstrate possession of superior attention to detail and observation skills
  • Proven ability to gather and analyze information.
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Internet, etc.).
  • Good spoken and written English and fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Respect for older people and sensitivity toward their culture, customs & religion
  • Clear driving license
  • Clear criminal record

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an international organization.

  • Contract length of 12 months

  • Reporting all safeguarding incidents you see, hear, hear about or suspect, using our internal reporting mechanism.
  • Complying with all safeguarding framework policies and practices
  • Completing mandatory training courses relating to our safeguarding policy framework and complying with HR vetting procedures.
