ABOUT HELPCODE
Helpcode is a non-governmental organization for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, operating since 1988 and registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Helpcode works in multiple countries worldwide, in both development and emergency contexts, to ensure access to quality education for children, protection of the most vulnerable families, and support for their communities. Helpcode has been present in Ukraine since 2022, implementing a humanitarian intervention under the “Emergency Initiative in Support of the Population Affected by the Ukrainian Crisis” through the project “Protecting Internally Displaced Persons and the Most Vulnerable Non-Displaced Communities in the Chernivtsi Region” (UKR/AID012600/06), reaching over 17,000 beneficiaries. Main activities included the distribution of material assistance, light rehabilitation of housing for displaced persons, and psychosocial support in the rural Hromada of Berehomet (Chernivtsi Oblast), an area with a high density of displaced populations. Since March 2024, Helpcode has expanded its intervention area to the Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions through the AICS-funded project “Tutti a Scuola – Inclusive, Equitable, and Protected Access to Safe and Quality Learning (Online and Offline) and Socialization Environments for Students and Teachers” (AID 03/UCR/012832), implemented in ATS with FADV. The project aims to ensure safe and inclusive access to education and socialization for children, adolescents, and teachers affected by the conflict. As part of the project, 24 safe learning spaces have been rehabilitated or created, educational materials and electronic devices distributed to facilitate online and offline learning, and three Multiservice Territorial Hubs established, providing protection, psychosocial support, and socialization opportunities. A total of 126 teachers and educational staff have been trained, and approximately 7,300 students and teachers engaged in offline educational activities. The intervention also includes mine risk education and initiatives to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV), with particular attention to the inclusion of children with disabilities and the promotion of gender equality.
General Description of the Project:
The Project was designed to respond to the urgent needs of children living in the regions of Mykolaiv and Odessa, through the strengthening of educational, psychosocial and health services at the local level. The approach focuses on the creation and redevelopment of safe spaces, the training of local staff and the mobilisation of mobile units to reach the most isolated sections of the population. By improving the conditions for safe, inclusive and quality education for children and adolescents affected by the conflict, children's regular participation in formal and non-formal activities will be ensured, with particular attention to children with disabilities and those exposed to situations of exclusion or early school leaving.
