Consultant-trainer in Rehabilitation at the Community Level

Position Summary

The Consultant-Trainer in Rehabilitation at the Community Level will provide technical support and strengthen the capacity of local medical teams piloting the Model of Rehabilitation at the community level in target hromadas. The role aims to strengthen local clinical and organisational capacity and enhance the technical quality of rehabilitation services.

Expected duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Training Design and Delivery

• Develop training materials and curricula tailored for rehabilitation professionals participating in the grant program “Piloting the Model of Rehabilitation at the Community Level”, ensuring alignment with international best practices and adaptation to community-level rehabilitation practice
• Conduct training sessions for rehabilitation specialists. Ensure interactive adult-learning methods and inclusion of local case scenarios.

Proposed Framework for Training Content:

• International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and its clinical application
• Use of “red flags” in clinical decision-making
• Rehabilitation of common musculoskeletal conditions
• Types, selection and adjustment of assistive technologies
• Use of digital solutions for community-level rehabilitation
• Effective communication practices, including accessible communication with persons with hearing or cognitive impairments

Supervision and Mentorship

• Facilitate six monthly online supervision sessions for rehabilitation specialists from participating facilities, focusing on case discussions, problem-solving, and clinical mentoring.
• Conduct five site visits (one per pilot hromada) to provide on-the-job supervision, direct coaching, and hands-on support to rehabilitation professionals in participating communities.

Clinical Guidance and Tools Development

• Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the most common musculoskeletal and functional conditions identified as priorities by participating facilities.
• Support local teams in improving coordination of patient care, including practical guidance on discharge planning and referral management across the continuum of services.
• Participate in the development of a simple functional independence checklist for PHC use to help identify patients requiring rehabilitation assessment and appropriate referral.

Capacity Building and Continuous Learning

• Review and recommend open-access online courses and professional development resources available in Ukraine (e.g., NHSU Academy, PhysioPedia, PhysioPedia+), relevant to rehabilitation professionals and PHC teams working at the community level.

Minimum Qualifications:

General Requirements

• Professional background as a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or PM&R physician with minimal 5 years of professional experience in rehabilitation services delivery
• Demonstrated training and mentorship experience — designing and delivering clinical trainings and supervision for rehabilitation or PHC teams
• Comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation system and service delivery processes, enabling effective contribution to the improvement of patient care coordination
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with healthcare teams
• Fluency in Ukrainian, English — working proficiency desirable
