Position Title: Optical Network Delivery Engineer
1. Position Summary
The Junior Optical Network Delivery Engineer is responsible for supporting the end-to-end delivery of optical and microwave network projects. This role involves the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of optical transmission (OLT, PON, DWDM) and microwave radio equipment, as well as the management of network elements via NMS (Network Management Systems). The engineer ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Preparation
- Assist in the preparation of project delivery documents, including Installation Guides, Acceptance Reports, and As-Built drawings for Optical Access (PON), Transport (DWDM/OTN), and Microwave sites.
- Support the verification of design documents against site conditions, including microwave path calculations and optical power budget checks.
- Participate in pre-delivery meetings and site surveys to identify potential risks and resource needs.
Equipment Installation & Configuration
- Perform the physical installation, cabling, and labeling of optical network equipment (OLTs, ONTs/ONUs, DWDM/OTN devices) and microwave radio units (antennas, RF cables, basebands) according to engineering specifications.
- Assist in the software configuration, data loading, and version upgrades of network elements using Network Management Systems (NMS), such as NCE-T, U2020, or Microwave NMS.
- Execute basic troubleshooting for hardware and software issues during the installation phase for both optical and microwave links.
Testing & Commissioning
- Conduct single-board tests, link tests, and end-to-end performance tests:
- Optical: PON split ratio, optical power, attenuation; DWDM BER, OSNR, wavelength alignment.
- Microwave: Link budget verification, RF performance testing, interference checks, and synchronization validation.
- Support integration testing with other network domains (IP, Core, Access).
- Document test results and prepare commissioning reports for customer acceptance.
Site Management & Safety
- Ensure all on-site activities comply with local safety regulations and company HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) policies, particularly for roof-top microwave installations and high-voltage optical equipment rooms.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, material usage, and work progress.
- Collaborate with contractors and third-party vendors to ensure smooth execution of field tasks.
Documentation & Handover
- Prepare and update project deliverables, including configuration backups, topology maps (optical and microwave), and acceptance certificates.
- Support the transition of projects from the delivery phase to the maintenance/operations phase, ensuring NMS data accuracy.
3. Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Last Education Year: Graduates from [2024, 2025, or 2026] are preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of optical communication principles (PON, DWDM/OTN) and Microwave transmission technologies (point-to-point links, frequency planning).
- Familiarity with Network Management Systems (NMS) for monitoring, configuration, and fault management of optical and microwave networks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings for optical access, transport, and microwave sites.
- Proficiency in using standard office tools (MS Office) and basic network diagnostic tools.
Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory)
- Huawei Certified Network Associate – Transmission (HCIA-Transmission) or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of microwave radio principles is a plus.
4. Personal Attributes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills in English and Ukrainian.
- Willingness to travel and work on-site, including rooftop environments for microwave installations.
- Team player with a proactive learning attitude.
5. Working Conditions
- This role requires frequent on-site visits, including data centers, equipment rooms, and outdoor rooftop environments for microwave antenna installations.
- Adherence to shift work or overtime may be necessary during critical project phases (e.g., cutovers, major upgrades).
We offer:
- Attractive salary and social benefits.
- Employment at global telecommunication leader.
- Interesting job in international structures.
- Possibility of professional development.
