About the job
The ICRC Water and Habitat Unit is seeking a competent Water and Habitat Engineer to join our team in Kyiv. This position designs and implements engineering projects, monitors on-site works, and carries out needs assessments and surveys, particularly in places of detention and interment of prisoners. The position requires regular travel to all the different ICRC offices across Ukraine.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Prepare essential project documents, including technical drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, and other documentation for engineering initiatives
- Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring compliance with project documentation, ICRC standards, and local building codes and implementing corrective measures as needed
- Collect, assess, and compile technical data on Water and Habitat programs for people deprived of freedom in Ukraine
- Participate in detention facility project assessments and contribute to preparing technical documents, including construction and rehabilitation plans, using ICRC-standard tools
- Support the preparation of tender documents, such as bills of quantities and specifications, and collaborate with the Logistics Unit, particularly in organizing contractor payments
- Supervise contractors on-site and conduct quality control of infrastructure installed by the ICRC
- Monitor and manage the implementation of Water and Habitat projects in the field, ensuring contracted works are completed effectively and producing regular progress reports
- Maintain and update project files in electronic databases
- Draft and submit implementation and progress reports as required
- Organize or deliver training sessions for end-users on the ICRC-installed infrastructure operation and maintenance

About you
To be successful as a Protection Field Officer in the Protection Work Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:
- Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
- University degree in civil, structural, architecture or similar (or relevant professional experience)
- 3-5 years of professional work experience in construction or designing or similar field of activity
- Experience with the State Penitentiary Service will be an asset
- Proficient in the designing software (AutoCAD) and preparation of Bills of Quantities
- Advanced knowledge of water and sanitation, utilities, and/or construction engineering
- Good command (spoken and written) English and Ukrainian
- Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
- Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
