Position Title: Interpreter

Duty Station: Mykolaiv

Salary53 000 UAH gross/42 665 UAH net

About MAG in Ukraine:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missiles, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response.  MAG seeks to save lives and build safer futures by providing risk education to communities, to help them stay safe. MAG is also in the process of seeking accreditation to start conducting explosive ordnance disposal and demining activities in Ukraine, to save the lives of people affected by the conflict. 

 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The post is responsible for the interpretation, translation and administration for the standards and training team and office, to provide interpretation, translation and administrative support to the STM in delivery of technical training and quality management (QM) activities. Responsibilities will include:

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Support verbal communications between International and National staff through interpretation of English/Ukrainian language as required. 
  • Develop in Ukranian/English language a glossary of all relevant technical terms and definitions.
  • Conduct searches on training data as required.
  • Maintain and update all training data.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong working relationship with the STM and TFM standards and training through cooperation and coordination of work and activities.
  • Work within the framework of MAG’s core values
  • Maintain a professional behavior  in all duties and responsibilities in line with MAG’s core values. 
  • Contribute to other fundraising initiatives where appropriate.
  • Participate in meetings where relevant. 
  • Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding  Framework , acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work and reporting concerns if they do a rise.  
  • Work in compliance with MAG’s Policies, including but not limited to, Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct and Dignity at Work Policies.
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programs.
  • Undertake any other duties within the scope of MAG HMA programming as required.

ABOUT YOU:

We are seeking a candidate with:

  • Excellent/very good written and spoken English.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work plans and objectives with minimal supervision.
  • An attitude and ability to travel/stay in the field when necessary, willingness to work outside. 
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a busy workload.
  • Capable of collaborating effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate and interpret effectively, sensitive and difficult managerial issues directly from internationals to national staff.   
  • An understanding of NGOs and a commitment to humanitarian work.
  • Computer literacy with MS Office, particularly, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. (Formal qualification is not necessary but must demonstrate proficiency).
  • Working understanding of filing systems and file management.
  • Accuracy with figures and the ability to create charts and tables and identify trends.
  • An ability to write clear, concise, factual reports.
