I have experience with a student`s project. Design of a web service for automatic generation, email distribution and verification of PDF certificates, which can work independently or in integration with other software products. The main functions of the web service: 1. Generation of pdf documents. The service works using REST API technology. That is, it can be accessed from another application or used as a separate application. 2. Automatic sending of e-mails with attached generated certificates. For this, a third-party service with an open application programming interface (API) is used. The project uses iText, a Java library that allows you to develop applications that create, convert, and process PDF documents. The web service code has a multi-layer structure, each level of which is responsible for a certain functionality. At the entity level, entities from the database are described in the form of objects. That is, for each of the tables in the database, a class is created, the fields of which correspond to the columns of the table. This is required for object-relational data mapping. Database queries are described at the repository level. Since the project uses the Spring Data JPA framework, the basic functionality for working with databases (saving, retrieving all records from the table, retrieving a record by id, etc.) is implemented automatically. The logic of the web service is implemented at the service level. A separate service is written to perform each of the tasks. Main tasks: generating a PDF document, sending an email, working with database tables, etc. Controllers are responsible for the external interface. A separate access address (endpoint) is created for each action that a user or other application can perform.
