Senior Economist (Cost & Financial Planning)

A Ukrainian software-development start-up with clients in the US, UK and EU is hiring a Financial Manager with a strong focus on cost structure, production economics, and cost control.

This role will work closely with the Finance Director and act as their deputy in key financial and cost-management processes. The position requires a hands-on professional with experience in production, cost calculation, and operational finance.

Expertise & Qualities:

  • Solid finance background – 3+ years of experience.
  • Production / cost experience — experience working with cost structure, cost allocation, or production economics.
  • Accounting understanding – good knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements, with the ability to reconcile management reports with accounting data.
  • Budgeting expertise – experience preparing and monitoring budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Clear communication – confident explaining figures to finance and non-finance colleagues; working English at B1–B2 level or above.
  • Reliability & integrity – handles sensitive data with care and follows established rules.

Key Responsibilities & Challenges:

  • Cost management & closing – oversee cost closing processes, ensure accurate cost allocation and maintain transparency of the company’s cost structure.
  • Plan vs. actual analysis – perform regular variance analysis, identify key deviations and provide insights to management.
  • Budgeting & forecasting – support and improve the company’s budgeting process, including financial planning and performance tracking.
  • Financial reporting – prepare management reports and financial analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Accounting alignment – work closely with internal and external accountants to ensure consistency between management reporting and accounting records.
  • Cash and financial control – support monitoring of cash flows, financial discipline and compliance with financial policies.
  • Process improvement – help improve financial processes, reporting structures and internal controls.
  • Leadership development – gradually take responsibility for coordinating and mentoring part of the finance team as it grows.
