The “Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland (ASB)” is a German aid and welfare organization working in areas such as rescue services, civil protection and social services. Since its foundation in 1888, the ASB has acted as a politically and denominationally independent association ensuring a high level of continuity and reliability.
ASB provides a people-centered humanitarian response to alleviate human suffering, contributes to building the resilience of systems, communities, and societies, and applies integrated approaches to welfare and social and socio-economic development. ASB currently has a portfolio of more than 100 projects in countries such as Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Haiti, Indonesia, Iraq, Kosovo, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Philippines, Serbia and Ukraine.
ASB has been implementing humanitarian interventions in Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in 2014. Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, ASB has increased its humanitarian operations to respond to multiple needs of the war-affected population of Ukraine. Our team is committed to provide multi-sectoral humanitarian aid in the areas of basic needs, food security, hygiene, winterization, health and psychosocial support. This includes in-kind assistance as well as cash components and social services provided in cooperation with local partners.
ASB in Ukraine is currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and committed individuals for the following position:
Health Officer
Duration: 12 months (possibility of extension)
Start: Earliest possible
Location: Kyiv or Lviv
Salary: ASB offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and coordinate the overall implementation of the Health project activities/interventions and ensure that programs are in line with ASB's strategy and donor requirements.
- Coordinate with implementing partners regarding project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Regularly assess health needs and adjust programs to meet the changing demands of the population.
- Coordinate with and participate in meetings with local authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
- Conduct research on healthcare trends, challenges and innovations.
- Develop and present comprehensive reports on program performance and healthcare trends to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to needs assessment and new proposal development, reviewing thoroughly the requests from healthcare facilities and recommending the equipment & support that is truly needed.
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to measure progress against project objectives.
- Ensuring proper reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of the health component of all projects.
- Travel to the project locations as required.
Key requirements:
- A degree in health/medicine.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in the healthcare sector (preferably in INGO).
- Familiarity with donor requirements and (inter-) national health guidelines.
- Knowledge of current healthcare country strategies and relevant updates.
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals in all three levels of healthcare.
- Ability to keep up to date with current healthcare literature, positive law practices, and health strategies.
- Knowledge of humanitarian assistance and health-related needs.
- Excellent command of common computer programs and healthcare-related applications.
- Excellent presentation abilities as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of English.
