GIS ASSISTANT

OBJECTIVES

1. GIS activities

The Acted GIS Assistant will support overall GIS activities in Ukraine. In close coordination with the Senior GIS Officer, he/she will support the development of maps for Acted and its partners. Furthermore, he/she will support the program teams in collecting and managing spatial datasets, verification, cleaning, and updating the collected data.

2. Data Visualization activities

The Acted GIS Assistant will support the overall development of maps to visualize spatial data. The assistant will be responsible for transforming data into maps that can be shared with program teams and external partners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Visualize and map data whilst assuring data consistency utilizing appropriate GIS/mapping tools and products.
2. Support the collection and analysis of data from the program teams through the provision of appropriate GIS/mapping tools and products.
3. Support map creation and regularly update base maps in line with identified requirements.
4. Provide input for geographic data and administrative divisions for various Acted databases.
5. Provide technical and strategic inputs into ongoing information management initiatives and partnerships.
6. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Working proficiency in English required;
• Bachelor degree or equivalent professional experience in GIS, Cartography, Geodesy, Geography, Environmental Science, Information Systems or any relevant discipline;
  
  
• Essential minimum technical qualifications:
• Experience with ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro or QGIS;
• Familiarity with geo-spatial information management and analysis;
• Understanding of basic cartography concepts and map design principles;
• Data processing and analysis experience using Excel;

• Desirable technical qualifications:
• Experience in the area of web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, R Shiny) is a strong asset.
• Experience with environmental monitoring data collection and processing from both national Ukrainian monitoring services and global datasets. 

• At least 6 months of relevant working experience, including internship. Experience in humanitarian settings is an advantage;
• Presence of any relevant portfolio (GitHub account, web based-dashboard, OSM mapper profile, published maps) is a strong asset;
• Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to think creatively in terms of tool and process development and optimization;
• Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing needs and responsibilities;
• Ability to work independently;
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
• Experience in international team is an asset
• Ability to learn new concepts/build technical skills quickly.
