GIS Officer (3P team - HIDU)

We are currently looking for a GIS Officer to be part of the "3P/3Zero Humanitarian-Early Recovery Pilot" project, which supports local actors in conflict-affected areas to plan and implement localized humanitarian and early recovery activities. This role involves supporting the assessment team in the collection and management of spatial datasets and the development of maps for REACH and its partners.

REACH Initiative is a unique humanitarian NGO, which provides research, data, and analysis to support more effective humanitarian intervention in crisis contexts. By providing precise and rigorous information on the humanitarian situation of crisis-affected populations in Ukraine, REACH informs better aid delivery and more transparent and reliable decision making. In Ukraine, REACH is hosted by our sister organisation, ACTED. 

In this context, IMPACT is looking for an experienced GIS Officer to be part of the project "3P/3Zero Humanitarian-Early Recovery Pilot: Building back better - Preventing, Preparing, and Protecting populations by rehabilitating sustainable and environmentally-friendly water, hygiene, and sanitation infrastructures in Chernihivska oblast, Ukraine." This project involves rehabilitating essential WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable water access for vulnerable communities affected by the conflict. Key activities include developing and implementing disaster risk management (DRM) strategies, conducting multi-hazard risk assessments, and supporting the capacity building of local authorities and public utility companies.

Within this project, implemented in close coordination with various IMPACT units and external partners, the GIS Officer will provide direct GIS consultative support and capacity-building activities. This involves regular meetings with local partners, the development of mapping products and geo-spatial datasets, remote sensing tasks, and the planning and facilitation of capacity-building activities such as workshops and training sessions. In addition to technical GIS proficiency, the ideal candidate will possess good communication skills and experience in facilitation and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree or equivalent professional experience in GIS, Cartography, Geodesy, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems or any relevant discipline
• 1-2 years of experience in GIS field, preferably in humanitarian context is an asset;
• Presence of any relevant portfolio (GitHub account, web based-dashboard, OSM mapper profile, published maps) is a strong asset;
• Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
• Experience in facilitation and stakeholder engagement an asset;
• Ability to think creatively in terms of tool and process development and optimization;
• Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing needs and responsibilities;
• Ability to work independently;
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
• Experience in international team is an asset
• Ability to learn new concepts/build technical skills quickly
