We are seeking a highly-qualified and motivated individual to join our organisation as Head of Occupational Health and Safety, based in Brovary.
The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in engineering or a specialised field relevant to this position, complimented by a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within large enterprises.
In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the creation and maintenance of safe working conditions across all operational areas, enterprise compliance with applicable laws, regulations, instructions on labour protection, fire and electrical safety, and responsible environmental practices. Additionally, they will develop and implement guidelines to improve working conditions, reduce the risk of occupational injuries, investigate and report on alleged workplace accidents and injuries, and work with department heads to improve working conditions and occupational health and safety across the enterprise.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Policy Implementation: Under guidance from the Head of Support Services, ensure all occupational health and safety policies and procedures are implemented and followed, including fire safety, electrical safety, and other workplace health and safety issues;
  • Workplace Safety: Conduct assessments of current workplace health and safety practices and guidelines and propose measures for improvement or continuous development. Develop and implement plans to improve workplace conditions and overall safety across the enterprise, in coordination with other heads of department;
  • Compliance: Ensure that HALO Trust activities are carried out in compliance with any and all relevant regulatory acts, advise on necessary steps to improve compliance and overall workplace safety, and participate in the certification of occupational health and safety activities;
  • Data Management: Keep detailed and appropriate records of all alleged workplace incidents and injuries, trainings, workshops, and complaints related to working conditions at the enterprise and report them to line management in a timely manner;
  • Training: Provide regular and ongoing training to all staff on relevant occupational health and safety matters, including fire safety, electrical safety, safety working at heights, and other aspects of workplace safety relevant to the activities of the enterprise;
  • Safety Devices: Conduct regular inspections of all fixed and mobile safety devices, such as fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, and smoke detectors, and advise on measures to improve the efficacy of safety devices. Assess compliance of safety devices returned after repair, and contribute to the safe and proper storage, issue, and laundering of protective clothing, footwear, and other personal protective equipment;
  • Team Management: Support the Head of Support Services to develop and grow the occupational health and safety department, foster a positive and supportive work environment, promote teamwork, and provide training and guidance as and when required;
  • Reporting: Prepare occupation health and safety reports on a monthly basis, highlighting challenges and key areas for improvement. Work with the Head of Support Services and Programme Manager to identify and address issues in a timely manner;
  • Strategic Vision: Plan for the growth and development of a dynamic and adaptive occupational health and safety department capable of meeting the needs of the program as it expands and make recommendations to the Head of Support Services accordingly; and
  • Other: Any tasks as delegated by Head of Support Services or Programme Manager.


Knowledge and Personal Characteristics
  • Higher education degree in engineering, or a related field; (required)
  • At least three (3) years’ proven and extensive experience in occupational health and safety or a related field, including in progressively more responsible roles; (required)
  • In-depth knowledge of workplace health and safety laws and regulations, particularly as they relate to large enterprises; (required)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of professionals; (required)
  • Previous experience working within a humanitarian organisation (preferred);
  • Fluent in Ukrainian, with working knowledge of Russian and English a strong asset;
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and adapt various fleet management software tools; (required)
  • Solid work ethic and strong delegation skills, capable of working productively under pressure and as part of a diverse team;
  • Adaptable and flexible with the ability to prioritise competing tasks;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail;
  • Commitment to HALO Trust principles.
Work conditions
  • Office work in Brovary (5/2 ,from 08.00 till 17.00 - 1 hour break).
  • Labour law contract.
  • Business trips to other regions if needed.
  • Salary - 71 623,00 (gross).
