Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is looking for a WASH/Shelter-NFI Assistant to join the team in Ukraine.

General information: 

· Organization: Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH), Warsaw based international non-governmental organization with representation office in Ukraine

· Position: WASH/Shelter-NFI Assistant

· Location: Kharkiv with frequent field visits

· Job terms: Full-time

· Duration: till March 31st 2025 with 3 months probation period

· Starting date: ASAP

About PAH:

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is an international non-governmental organization which since 1992 has been providing humanitarian and development help worldwide. So far, the interventions have been carried out in 46 different countries. By possessing long-standing expertise in the implementation of projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security and Livelihoods, as well as Nutrition and Education, PAH concentrates its global activities on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering from the consequences of armed conflicts, natural disasters and other humanitarian crises.

PAH has been present in Ukraine since August 2014 delivering humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable of the conflict-affected population. PAH provides assistance to internally displaced people, elderly and single mothers, working in the sectors of food security protection and livelihoods. PAH Ukraine is expanding programming from humanitarian to both early recovery and development-oriented interventions that provide sustainable livelihoods opportunities to the affected population.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementing WASH and Shelter-NFI activities and monitoring of the needs on site;
  • Conducting beneficiary targeting, organizing registration and verification in collaboration of local partners;
  • Drafting of BoQs (Bill of Quantities)/Specifications for implementation of WASH and Shelter-NFI activities;
  • Drawing various measurements, diagrams, and sketches that will be needed when implementing or planning activities;
  • Working closely with local partners, local institutions and affected population;
  • Organizing and conducting beneficiary registration events and the beneficiary selection process using KoboCollect or similar platforms;
  • Working closely with project staff in the field and providing comprehensive technical support and assistance to the organization;
  • Technical monitoring of the progress of activities within the scope of competence and providing appropriate feedback to management;
  • Participating in the needs assessments carried out in project operational areas;
  • Ensuring all project-related documentation received and properly stored;
  • Attending relevant internal and external meetings (Clusters meetings, meetings with other INGOs, project review and lessons learnt meetings, etc.) and preparing minutes;
  • Performing site visits to the field sites in Ukraine;

The successful candidate will be selected based on the qualification requirements described below:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as civil engineering, architecture or any other relevant area.
  • At least 2 years of experience in construction sphere.
  • Ability to prepare estimates/Bills of Quantities (BoQ), specifications or defect reports.
  • Ability to draw up clear, accurate measurement plans, sketches or other schemes. Experience and ability to use construction drawing software (AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Revit, etc.) will be an advantage.
  • Experience working with documentation flow (storing, managing etc.)
  • Project management skills, including the ability to plan, implement and monitor activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Experience in the humanitarian field and knowledge of humanitarian policies related to emergency response will be an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Teams etc).
  • Proven experience with MS Excel for pivot tables, filtering, scoring, and other features will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic and challenging environment.
