Medicos del Mundo (MdM) is an independent international movement of active campaigners, who provide care, bear witness, and support social change. MdM campaigns for a world without any barriers to healthcare, a world in which health is recognized as a fundamental right. Medicos del Mundo is the Spanish division of the international MdM Network implementing emergency response and development programmes in Ukraine. MdM Mission in Ukraine was established following the emergency assessment conducted in April 2015 and focused on changes in the availability of and access to healthcare, particularly for the most vulnerable groups of the population, including the elderly and people with chronic diseases. One of the main goals of MdM is ensuring and extending the access of the Ukrainian population to timely and quality primary healthcare (PHC), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, and Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention. In Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts MdM is targeting the most vulnerable communities through the mobile outreach unit approach, covering locations that have been affected by the hostilities or hosting large numbers of Internally Displaced People in the situation when the health system has been severely disrupted and overloaded during the war.

General objective of the position:

Under the Health Officer's direct supervision and technical guidance, the Health promoter prepares and presents health education sessions to the population/patients according to MDM principles and values.

Specific Objectives of the position:

Program management

To collect and report (to the Supervisor/ Health Officer) specific information related to the covered community: Statistical data on population structure, morbidity rates, vulnerability, level of information, living conditions, and risks related;
To conduct awareness session needs assessments among the population of communities covered by MDM activities;
Under the supervision of the Health Officer prepare material for health education sessions, messages, and topics addressed to different populations;
To deliver high-quality, culturally responsive education sessions on different health topics (including reproductive health) to people in the community;
To ensure that all population groups will be included through the adaptation of the content to the comprehensive capacities of the audience. The sessions must be conducted in a welcoming and friendly manner, in simple language understandable to the audience, without the use of special terms;
To prepare and distribute informational materials for awareness sessions and respond to requests for materials;

Technical support

To assist in the development of the capacity of the communities in rural areas to provide health promotion;

To make efforts to involve the communities in the activities of awareness and prevention;
To indicate possible local actors or local NGOs that could be involved in awareness activities at a local level;
To assist the Health Officer in the collection of information on national health policy ( reports, articles, etc.), collecting and participating in the analysis of epidemiological data ( reports, articles, etc.) from the projects;

Coordination and reporting

To consolidate the link between the communities and the MDM services;

To coordinate Health promoter visits/ sessions with community representatives;
To analyse the awareness session data on a regular basis and set up corrective measures in coordination with the Health Officer/ MH PSS officer;
To provide monthly reports of developed and conducted awareness outreach activities and other data and reporting requirements;

Other

Follow and mainstream MdM standards regarding prevention from sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, gender sensitivity, and child protection policies.

Follow and respect security rules, polices, and decisions.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Position and profile requirements:

Educational background

Medical or paramedical background

Professional experience

Experience working with communities and/or local associations on awareness raising, prevention, mobilization, and/or community strengthening is desirable;
Training experience will be an asset;
Advance computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet).
Technical experience
Experience working with NGOs preferably;
