The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 100 countries and has some 20,000 staff.
In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. We have over 900 staff working across the county in various professional fields.
About the job
The ICRC Protection Department is recruiting a Protection Field Officer based in its Odesa office. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Protection Field Officer will mainly be responsible for contributing to the implementation of the Protection of the Civilian Population (PCP) activities of the ICRC in the Odesa area of responsibility, by collecting information and analyzing events and patterns causing humanitarian consequences that affect the civilian population, according to International Humanitarian Law (IHL). This includes the proposal of concrete follow up actions and supporting assessments by ICRC assistance Departments.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
The Protection Field Officer carries out the tasks mentioned below under the direct supervision of the Field Team Leader and in support of the various field teams and Management of the Sub Delegation (SD):
- Provides context analysis and monitors the latest political, economic, and social developments affecting the civilian population, through various sources (including media, health authorities, security services, civil society, Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), etc.).
- Contributes to the collection and analysis of events and patterns that affect the civilian population, in strict adherence to the ICRC principles of confidentiality and neutrality.
- Fosters a multidisciplinary response by the ICRC to address the various needs of the affected civilian population, at individual and community levels.
- Organizes and participates in field trips with the Protection team or other departments, which can last various days. These allow (through various meetings with interlocutors in the areas of interest) proximity with affected populations to understand their concerns.
- Contributes to written reports of field trips and to Protection and context-related analyses.
- May be called upon to carry out other activities linked to the Protection of civilians, as requested by the management of the SD.
- Is responsible for creating a conducive environment (multidisciplinary approach, good team dynamics) among their own team members and with other teams.

About you
To be successful as Protection Field Officer in the Protection Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:
- Ukrainian citizenship or holding permanent resident status in Ukraine.
- University degree or relevant professional experience.
- 1 year of previous professional experience for instance in the field of social/political/economic science or similar is required, 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience are desirable and of added value.
- Excellent command of Ukrainian and Russian; good command of English (C1 minimum).
- Computer proficiency.
- Genuine interest to work in the humanitarian sector.
- High level of motivation, and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to respect the 7 principles of the Red Cross, in particular the neutrality principle.
- Empathy towards affected populations.
- Strong resilience.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative.
- Strong sense of responsibility.
- Good team player.
- Ability to work within in a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
