About the job
The ICRC Communication Department seeks a competent Communication Officer to join our team in Kharkiv. The Communication Officer plays a key role in designing, planning, and implementing the communication strategy and related initiatives in close collaboration with the management of the Kharkiv sub-delegation and the delegation’s communication department. Additionally, the Communication Officer serves as the ICRC’s external representative, working to enhance understanding, support, and acceptance of the organization among key stakeholders within the area of responsibility.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Managing diverse communication tasks related to the ICRC’s humanitarian activities in the Kharkiv
- Promoting effective communication practices and coordination
- Developing impactful messaging and creating content to highlight the humanitarian situation and the ICRC’s response, aligned with operational priorities and strategy
- Producing public communication content (text, images, audio-visual) to address needs and suggesting stories for delegation social media or local media
- Organizing and implementing communication activities, including operational communication sessions, community engagement initiatives, and interactions with influential circles and civil society organizations
- Assessing operational communication and community engagement needs at the field level, developing strategies, and integrating them across programs
- Developing tools for operational communication (e.g., presentations, FAQs, brochures) and community engagement (e.g., feedback mechanisms, surveys).

About you
To be successful as a Communication Officer in the Communication Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:
- Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
- University degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations or journalism
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in a field relevant to communication and/or prevention (preferably with the ICRC)
- Professional fluency (written and spoken) in English and Ukrainian
- Computer skills (proficiency in MS Office); familiarity with digital communication tools
- Sound knowledge of the political, social and media environment in the country/region covered
- Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
- Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
