About the job 

The ICRC Water and Habitat Department is seeking a highly capable Water and Habitat (WatHab) Engineer to join our team in Kyiv. In close collaboration with the management and the team members, a WatHab Engineer plans, designs, and implements engineering projects, monitors on-site works, and carries out needs assessments and surveys. A WatHab Engineer has a close working relationship with external stakeholders related to the WatHab projects.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Draw up documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, etc.) for engineering projects 
• Monitor project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary 
• Assess, collect, and compile technical information relating to the Water and Habitat programs in relation to the People Deprived of Freedom in Ukraine
• Participate in the assessment in places of detention projects and preparation of technical documentation for the projects using standard ICRC programs for the construction and rehabilitation of buildings
• Participate in the preparation of tender documentation (including bills of quantities, specifications) and contractual documents, as well as collaborate with the Logistics Unit, particularly when it comes to organizing payments  
• Supervise contractors working on project sites and conduct quality control of infrastructure installed by the ICRC 
• Monitor and supervise the implementation, especially contracted works, of Water & Habitat projects in the field and prepare work progress reports
• Create project files in electronic databases (such as the Project and Activity Management - PAM application) and keep them up to date 
• Prepare implementation/progress reports
• Train or organize training for end-users in the operation and maintenance of infrastructure installed by the ICRC

About you

To be successful as Water and Habitat Engineer in the Water and Habitat (WatHab) Department, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:  

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree relevant to the subject matter (e.g. in civil, structural, architecture, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electromechanics engineering or similar)
• 3-5 years of professional work experience in construction or designing or similar field of activity
• Experience with the State Penitentiary Service will be an asset
• Proficient in the designing software (AutoCAD) and preparation of Bills of Quantities
• Advanced knowledge of water and sanitation, utilities, and/or construction engineering
• Good command (spoken and written) English and Ukrainian 
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
