About the job 

The ICRC Economic Security (EcoSec) is seeking a highly capable Agronomist to join our team in Kyiv. This role is responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and monitoring the Economic Security (EcoSec) Unit’s Agro & livestock programs in line with the country strategy, under the direct supervision of Kyiv Economic Security Deputy Coordinator and with limited support from the regional specialist. ICRC is supporting the most vulnerable population affected by conflict, here it means small-scale farming, it is to be understood at the self-subsistence backyard food production at household (HH) level including vegetable garden, orchards & livestock (usually less than 1ha and up to 10ha). The Agronomist will act as the institutional memory in the design and evolution of the agro-livestock strategy.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the coordination in Kyiv, the delegates, and Field Officers based in the sub-delegations
• Support to the Analytics & Evidence, Logistics, Procurement, and Finance and Administration departments related to agro & veterinary projects 
• Represent the ICRC with technical and government authorities, organizations, relevant clusters, and working groups whose work relates to the EcoSec Agro & livestock program
• Contribute to the design, planning, implementation assessment, and monitoring/evaluation of the Agro & livestock program under the direction of the EcoSec Deputy Coordinator as defined in the strategy, budget, and the Operational Plan
• With the support of the Regional Agronomist and Veterinarian, ensure the ICRC guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and standards are followed
• Contribute to the definition and formulation of the medium-long term agriculture strategy as well as the yearly operational planning and design of agro-interventions in Ukraine to improve the food production, living conditions, and the livelihoods of farming households affected by the conflict
• Act as the institutional memory in the design and evolution of the agro-livestock strategy

About you

To be successful as Agronomist in the Economic Security (EcoSec) Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:  

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree in Agronomy or Agriculture Science or extensive experience in agriculture and livestock initiatives, master is an asset
• Education/experience in horticulture 
• Education/experience in alternative crops and/or soil management and/or animal nutrition (recovery agriculture, organic, etc.) and/or climate SMART agriculture and/or small-scale irrigation is an asset
• 3+ years of professional experience in a similar field
• Experience working and supporting small-scale farming/farmers in Ukraine 
• Good command (written and spoken) of English and Ukrainian 
• Good computer skills, excellent command of standard Microsoft Office tools and ICRC standard monitoring and evaluation software, and good knowledge of Internet research
• Experience in collaboration with the local authorities and agriculture services
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
