 Background Information – Job-specific


 The invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has led to a severe and highly complex humanitarian emergency with a global impact not witnessed in Europe for over 70 years. The international response to the Ukraine crisis has been significant, with exceptional support being provided by many donor countries and organizations. UNOPS, with its ability to add considerable value in its core mandated areas of infrastructure, procurement, and project management services, is part of the response to the ongoing emergency and is augmenting its capacity to be able to provide robust and timely support over the long term, through the recovery and eventual reconstruction phases. Recognizing the enormity and complexity of the challenges ahead, UNOPS is establishing a dedicated Ukraine Multi Country Office (based in Kyiv), from where UNOPS’ operations will, with the support of the UNOPS ECR Regional Office (based in Geneva) and UNOPS’ HQ (Copenhagen), be planned, resourced, implemented, managed and controlled in the months and years ahead.
 
 UNOPS Ukraine multi-Country Office is looking for an Architect to provide required services ensuring smooth implementation of the Architectural and engineering works within ongoing and developing infrastructure activities in Ukraine, Moldova, and Poland.
 She/he is required to carry out Architectural design and drawings as per the Work Plans and activities planned by the Head of Infrastructure and report accordingly to the Design Management Specialist as a direct supervisor or designated alternate. 

Functional Responsibilities
 He/She will be undertaking the following tasks depending on the type of project scope;
 
 Summary of functions:

 •Project Development
 •Infrastructure Design and Development
 •Manage and coordinate with external consultants
 
 1.  Project Development
 
 •Assist in preparation of preliminary cost estimates, preliminary design documentation, and other tasks as necessary.
 
 2. Infrastructure Design and Development
 
 •Conduct  site assessments as need arises and prepare subsequent reports.
 •Assist the Design Management Specialist in conducting needs assessment of the building and structures that are to be reconstructed or new design, and provide comprehensive needs assessment reports.
 •Lead and support in preparing design briefs.Prepare concept design proposals for new projects in collaboration with the Structural engineer and the Design Management Specialist
 •Plan and produce design documentation for infrastructure projects.
 •Revise design work for infrastructure projects as and when required.
 •Timely production of conceptual and detailed architectural drawings for new designs, renovations works etc in accordance with the UNOPS Design Planning Manual and/or applicable engineering code.
 •Preparation of 3d- visualization of designs.
 •Plan and design based on the local area building by laws and regulations.
 •Attend coordination/consultation meetings if and when required.
 •Formulate and/or check and revise scope of works and all technical  documents/designs in line with national legal framework and UNOPS norms and standards.
 
 3. Support  and coordinate with external consultants
 For projects where external consultants are engaged to perform design related activities, the Architect should carry out the following:
 
 •Assist the Design Management Specialist in preparing terms or reference or scope of work to engage external consultants including establishing a timeline for the design deliverables.
 •Regular coordination with external design consultants to ensure that deliverables are being prepared in accordance with UNOPS expectations and as per the timeline

 Education

 •Bachelor degree  in Architecture is required
 
 Work experience
 - Required
 
 •Minimum of two years with a bachelor's degree of relevant professional experience is required.
 •Experience in preparation of Architectural conceptual design and construction, supervision and/or implementation of buildings construction and reconstruction for medium to large scale construction projects is required.
 •Strong computer skills and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
 •Knowledge of a Auto CAD software is required
 
 - Desirable

 •Knowledge of 3d software like Sketchup, Archicad, 3d Max, Revit is desirable.
 •Familiarity with FIDIC Contracts is desirable.
 
 Certifications
 
 •Certification/registration from the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing Ukraine is desirable.
 •Project Management certification (for example PRINCE2® Foundation) would be an asset.
 
 Language requirements
 
 •Knowledge in Ukrainian is required
 •Intermediate level of English (read, write and speak) is required
 
 Functional competencies
 
 •Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
 •Ability to travel independently

This is a local position, it is therefore open to Nationals of Ukraine and to individuals who have a valid residence/work permit.
 
 Contract type: Ongoing ICA
 Contract level: Local ICA Support - LICA 8 (ICS8)
 Contract duration: 6 months,  the extension of the contract  is pending satisfactory performance and budget availability.
