Mission Kharkiv is a Spanish-Ukrainian NGO focused on bringing vital healthcare and support to people affected by the war in Ukraine. We make sure communities at risk have access to critical medical help, providing safe patient evacuations and delivering life-saving medications so they can rely on care even in the toughest times.
Location: Kharkiv (possibility for hybrid after 2 month)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate colleague to step into the role of Medical Director, leading and expanding Mission Kharkiv’s healthcare initiatives. This position calls for a capable leader who is both strategic and detail-oriented, dedicated to delivering high-quality healthcare solutions in challenging environments. Experience in oncology and pharmaceuticals will be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and Coordinate Medical Programs
Develop, oversee, and implement Mission Kharkiv’s medical programs from concept to delivery, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and goals. Establish project timelines, budgets, and evaluation frameworks to measure impact, while adapting strategies to changing needs and priorities.
- Manage and Support Healthcare Teams
Direct healthcare teams by setting clear objectives, offering continuous guidance, and creating an environment of accountability to achieve high standards in service delivery. Mentor team members, facilitate professional growth, and foster a collaborative, motivated workforce committed to quality patient care.
- Assess and Address Community Healthcare Needs
Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in healthcare services, design targeted initiatives to address these needs, and develop resources to ensure communities receive essential care. Utilize data-driven approaches to prioritize projects that maximize impact in underserved areas.
- Oversee Reporting and Documentation
Prepare and review detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, providing comprehensive insights into project outcomes and areas for improvement. Ensure accurate documentation for internal reviews, leadership updates, and external stakeholder engagement, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Advocate for Patient Rights and Healthcare Access
Represent Mission Kharkiv as an advocate in public forums, conferences, and community events, championing patient rights and equitable access to healthcare. Communicate the importance of Mission Kharkiv’s initiatives and foster positive relationships within the community to support ongoing programs.
- Build Strategic Relationships with Key Stakeholders
Establish and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, healthcare providers, and other NGOs to expand Mission Kharkiv’s influence and resources. Engage regularly with partners to align goals, leverage shared resources, and maximize program reach and efficiency.
- Ensure Effective Grant Reporting and Compliance
Work closely with the Administration Department to oversee grant reporting, ensuring all funding activities comply with donor requirements and deadlines. Maintain accurate financial tracking and program metrics to ensure transparency and fulfill donor expectations.
- Foster Partnerships with Medical Organizations
Develop partnerships with international and local medical organizations, securing resources, expertise, and collaboration opportunities to enhance Mission Kharkiv’s programs. Expand the organization’s network within the healthcare sector to drive innovation and impact.
- Establish and Refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Develop, implement, and continuously improve SOPs to standardize processes and support efficient project execution. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration by ensuring that all departments understand and adhere to these procedures, enhancing coordination and productivity.
- Provide Medical Insights to Cross-Functional Teams
Collaborate with departments such as Fundraising and Coordination, offering expert medical insights and strategic guidance to align efforts and support successful project outcomes. Assist teams in planning, decision-making, and problem-solving to achieve organization-wide objectives.
Qualifications
- Medical degree and at least 3 years of experience in humanitarian healthcare.
- Strong experience in project management and team leadership in the healthcare field.
- Ability to make strategic decisions and remain effective under pressure.
- Fluent English and strong digital literacy.
- Specific experience in pharmaceuticals or oncology will be a bonus.
