CONTEXT

Three MdM (Doctors of the World) chapters are directly implementing activities in Ukraine: 

  • MdM Spain has the lead for global MdM response in the country and covers Kyiv and surroundings, Donbass, Kharkiv, Zaporidja
  • MdM Germany covers Dnipro and Vinitsia
  • MdM France covers the Southern part, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Kherson

In South region, MdM-F supports and searchs for new perspectives of cooperation among other NGOs as well as among humanitarian, civil society, medical and local authorities. Main focus is the support in restoring access to medical services and Mental Health and Psychosocial Services (MHPSS) for populations affected by the conflict. The component of sexual and reproductive health, as well as Gender Based Violence is part of this project. MdM-F also collaborates with local organization, dedicated to population acknowledgement with LGBTQI+, sexual awareness topics. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Mental Health Psychosocial Advisor and in very close coordination with the Medical Coordinator and Medical Activity Manager, the medical and MHPSS team, the MHPSS Social Wocial worker will oversee the implementation of MHPSS, in line with MdM’s strategy. S/he will strengthen awareness on MHPSS to the service providers, partners and community stakeholders involved in the provision of activities.

ROLES:

1.  Strengthening of MHPSS activities (prevention and response)

  • To participate in analysing the intervention context in relation mainly to MHPSS (including gaps and needs among the humanitarian response) 
  • To support the MHPSS Advisor to develop a strong community network to strengthen information sharing, synergies, and coordination of the response and to be responsible for the mapping / recording / updating of the MHPSS services wherever possible
  • To conduct regular outreach within communities to raise awareness on MHPSS topics
  • To support MHPSS Advisor to build up strong relationships with the community stakeholders
  • To hold small-group discussion on MHPSS related topics with Community Helpers, Medical Staff and other actors. 

2. Capacity building & Training 

  • In close collaboration with the MHPSS Advisor and the MHPSS officers, to identify the capacity building needs of MdM-F team and partners and propose relevant training opportunities
  • Based on the context analysis, identify the capacity building and sensitization needs of community stakeholders on MHPSS response.
  • To contribute to the development and dissemination of MH IEC   material
  • Together with the MHPSS Advisor and the MHPSS officers, to ensure the quality of the trainings provided and that they use a methodology adapted to community and to the sociocultural context
  • To contributing to the provision of trainings and seminars in relation to  Basic Psychosocial support and prevention of burnout
  • To contribute to the development of MHPSS training material
  • To participate in weekly organizational MHPSS meetings and to update the minutes accordingly
  • To carry out translations of mental health and psychosocial trainings 

3.     Communication and reporting  

  • To support MHPSS Advisor to coordinate and arrange appointments with stakeholders, to contribute in assessments 
  • Upon request, take part with the MdM-F team, partners or other actors to advocacy and communication activities
  • Ensure respect of strict confidentiality regarding protection program information management and been responsible to keep records and follow up (in collaboration with the MHPSS officers) the referred beneficiaries to specialised mental health services.
  • To participate in field visits and to contribute to the MHPSS activities (capacity building, awareness raising sessions in relation to MHPSS)
  • To participate in MHPSS TWGs and keep minutes accordingly (e.g to Protection, MHPSS, LGBTQI+ clusters)
  • To participating in multidisciplinary teams and meetings at the level of the mission and with relevant partners
  • To overview data collection on MHPSS activities in the field, recording and reporting.
  • Prepare workplan schedules and report for all activities
  • Assist in data collection related to SRH/GBV community activities
  • Share with the Medical Activity Manager and the SRH Advisor any difficulties met in the field and propose solutions or adjustments
  • Participate to internal MdM-F meetings
  • Contribute to MdM monthly report and sitrep

    Skills required:
     
    • Education: A degree or diploma in social sciences, medical sciences or any relevant field combined with mandatory training in protection or gender studies 
    • Demonstrated professional experience of minimum 2 years in social work and/or humanitarian work related to MHPSS response, psychological empowerment and/or protection; an experience in an international NGO is an asset
    • Experience in community awareness 
    • Significant experience leading trainings, coaching, capacity building and mentoring of local partners and community stakeholders
    • Knowledge of Ukrainian local healthcare system

    • Fluency in Ukrainian and in English and/or Russian mandatory. 
       
      EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
       
    • Type of contract: Fixed term contract
    • Duration: 4 months, renewable
    • Starting date: ASAP
    • Rhythm: full-time 
    • Location: Mykolaiv
    • Related occupation : Social worker  – Category 4 : 
    • Salary according to MdM classification (non-negotiable) : basic gross salary from 50 700 UAH + food and transportation allowances. 
    • Partial reimbursement for medical coverage
    • Support of corporate psychologist.
