SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

HEKS/EPER is looking for the SENIOR ACCOUNTANT. Base in Kyiv.

The SENIOR ACCOUNTANT carries out the accounting and financial management of the delegation, in compliance with donors, HEKS procedures and local legislation. He/she provides support and assistance to all staff in relation to financial procedures and requirements. He/she produces high quality and timely financial frame and analysis to other departments, leads on financial reporting. 

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with local regulatory requirements.
• Ensure that all necessary documents are requested, collected, and compiled
• Oversee the processing of state payroll taxes
• Detect and address potential compliance issues proactively
• Maintain compliance with all state regulations at all times
• Maintain constant communication with the state agencies
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including tax declarations, financial statement preparation, reconciliation, and analysis. 
• Work collaboratively with other teams to achieve shared goals
• Review and approve Payment Vouchers and journal entries, adjustments, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and local law.
• Coordinate and liaise with tax authorities, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financial performance metrics to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
• Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in accounting management processes.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Proven experience as a Chief Accountant or in a similar role, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting 
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and local regulations 
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
• Integrity and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.
• Adaptability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and regulations.
• Review & approve payment vouchers & journal entries.
• Prior working Experience in an NGO is preferable
