ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

FHI 360 is a US-based NGO dedicated to improving lives in lasting ways by advancing integrated, locally driven solutions.   FHI 360’s Crisis Response team is responding to the humanitarian emergency, providing integrated health, nutrition, mental health, and protection programming to address critical needs of the population. FHI 360 is seeking a Nutrition Assistant for an anticipated new nutrition project focused on improving infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices among pregnant and lactating women in health facilities and communities. The position is contingent upon confirmation of donor funding.

POSITION OVERVIEW  

Under supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager, the Nutrition Associate is responsible for performing administrative and technical duties to support the implementation of FHI 360’s nutrition activities in 7 regions of southern and eastern Ukraine. The Nutrition Associate will provide operational and technical support for the provision of skilled lactation counseling for pregnant and postpartum women in health facilities, promotion of breastfeeding in communities and referral for skilled counseling, development of informational materials and videos on nutrition topics, training of health workers on IYCF, and IYCF-related assessments in health facilities and communities. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

• Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to nutrition activities in all regions.
• Support the Community Nutrition Officer in the management of community nutrition volunteers and in the implementation of community IYCF promotion, referral and follow-up.
• Assist in managing the implementation of the IYCF trainings for health workers, including coordination with procurement and finance unit as needed. Coordinate with participants in advance of the training.
• Help coordinate the distribution of mother-baby hygiene kits to women receiving IYCF services.
• Provide operational support to the provision of lactation counseling support in health facilities (including support FHI 360’s lactation counselors to ensure they have the logistic, material and technical support they need for direct services and mentorship of health workers).
• Contribute to training and field activity reports and ensure data on training indicators is submitted to the MEAL Unit.
• Maintain the implementation matrix for nutrition activities, keeping it up-to-date and ensuring that all activities and supported facilities/communities are accurately represented.
• Make phone calls, coordinate requests for support, schedule appointments, and assist in organizing internal and external meetings.
• Take notes and documents minutes during internal and external meetings.
• Maintain updated electronic and hard copy files related to nutrition activities.
• Conduct preparatory work for new activities, information gathering, and background research, as requested by the Nutrition Program Manager.
• Liaise between the nutrition unit and other departments including Procurement, Logistics, Finance, Fleet, Security and MEAL.
• Any other duty assigned by supervisor.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Nursing degree or other relevant field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience
• Strong administrative and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task.
• Fluent in Ukrainian. Basic level of English is an advantage.
• Able to work in a team, attentive to details, eager to learn, and flexible to work in challenging conditions.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Teams.
