INTERSOS Ukraine is a subdivision of the international humanitarian organization INTERSOS (Italy).

We provide support to victims of emergencies, armed conflicts and natural disasters with particular attention to the most vulnerable categories: children, women, elderly people, displaces persons, who were forced to flee their homes and moved to safer places and also to those who cannot leave the dangerous regions and are under constant threat.

INTERSOS teams are present in Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kyiv and expand their activities in Mykolayiv and Kherson.

INTERSOS Ukraine provides economic, humanitarian and medical aid, psychological support, organizes educational activities, gives medicines and equipment to the hospitals, provides shelter and ensures basic human needs. During one year of our work in Ukraine we provided support to more than 100 000 people. 75 000 of them received aid in the sphere of protection, prevention and emergency care. 3 000 medical consultations were carried out in remote regions, which are not covered by the official heath care system. 49 medical institutions received medicines, medical devices and equipment.

We are opening a vacancy of the Civil Engineer (Інженер-будівельник).

Duration of contract till 31/08/2026 with possibility to extend.

Main Purpose

The Civil Engineer will be based in Kharkiv, with frequent trips to the areas of the project intervention. S/he will be responsible for the implementation of all the rehabilitation activities defined in the project. He/she is responsible for activities planning, technical assessments and preparing the bills of quantity, the supervision of the rehabilitation of educational centers and collective sites, and coordination and follow up on the rehabilitation work done by sub-contractors. ?

Tasks

Main responsibilities: 

• Assess and design rehabilitation plans for the centers defined in the project and prepare Bill of Quantities.
• Monitor the construction to ensure timely and quality completion of the work.
• Organize, manage and record INTERSOS rehabilitation work as required, in collaboration with the CCCM - Shelter Clusters.
• Supervise rehabilitation projects and ensure contract terms and conditions and safety guidelines are adhered to for the entire duration of the contract.
• Monitoring the rehabilitation work.
• Participate in drafting new proposals of activities, including the technical descriptions and the budget associated with them. 
• Work along with the program team in all the processes of selecting, designing, implementing and monitoring the rehabilitation planning and activities by meetings and good communication. 
• Regularly inform the Project Manager verbally and with regular written reports on the state and progress of the activities and the problems and/or solutions identified.
• Conduct regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow-up on the construction work and to identify issues.  
• Ensure that gender sensitivity and protection mainstreaming are considered in the project implementation. 
• Conduct needs assessments of the area whenever requested, inform and coordinate the rehabilitation activities with the other agencies and actors carrying out similar activities.

Requirements

Education 

• Civil engineering degree 

Professional experience 

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience as civil engineer
• Preferable experience in the humanitarian sector 
• Experience with rehabilitation of public centers to make them inclusive for people with limited mobility a strong asset

Professional requirements 

• Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet) 
• Analytical thinking, analysis capacity skills
