Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF – Doctors Without Borders) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.
Duration: 2 months
Workplace:
This is a mobile position based in Kyiv coordination office and to travel to different locations.
Main purpose:
Deliver health promotion, risk communication, and community engagement to vulnerable populations affected by extreme cold, power outages, and winter-related service disruptions in Kyiv. Focus on preventing winter illnesses and injuries and improving access to essential services.
Context Specific Accountabilities
- Participate in winter assessments and rapid response activities; collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
- Conduct outreach in communities, high-rise block buildings, collective centres, warming (“invincibility”) points, and home settings and deliver IEC related to winter risks, including cold exposure safety, hypothermia, burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, and respiratory illness
- Facilitate group sessions, info meetings, and one-on-one guidance to disseminate clear, accurate health messages on safe heating, energy use, ventilation, and cold-weather protection.
- Support awareness on when and where to seek medical care, MHPSS, protection and winterization services during winter emergency.
- Refer individuals to health, mental health, protection, and winterization services using established referral pathways.
- Identify community health concerns and barriers to accessing services during winter emergencies.
- Coordinate with health, social, MHPSS and emergency response teams.
- Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
- Support service mapping updates related to winter health services in Kyiv.
- Assist with distribution of IEC materials and winter NFIs
- Collect and record health promotion activity data and contribute to weekly situation reports (SitReps) and activity reports
Education
- Degree in either social science, social communication, nurse, public health or
teaching.
Experience
Minimum 2 years preferable previous experience in teaching, nursing or social
work, community mobilization.
• Experience in humanitarian or emergency settings preferred.
• Experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.
