About the job 

The ICRC Health Unit recruits a Health Field Officer First Aid and Prehospital Emergency Care (FAPHEC) to be based in its Kyiv office with frequent field trips to various locations, including the frontline. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Health Field Officer FAPHEC will be responsible for point-for field projects in the areas of First-Aid and Prehospital Emergency Care (FAPHEC). Also the Health Field Officer FAPHEC will be in charge of delivering coherent planning, implementation, and supervision of the program/projects in compliance with ICRC standards. S/he is also will be responsible for project evaluation and reporting as well as for training and mentoring the field health staff involved.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Implement and strengthen local first aid response capacities & other health programme(s) activities or components in his/her geographic area or field of responsibility
  • Support the establishment of realistic and pragmatic project proposals suited to the context and in line with ICRC guidelines, objectives, and priorities, with the involvement and participation of relevant internal file holders and external local players
  • Conduct field assessments and regular field visits to monitor activities and first aid related threats to the population
  • Facilitate field trips, and communicate with the local population/ victims/ beneficiaries & partners (including weapon bearers, communities, civilian critical infrastructure, health actors and others)
  • Support strengthening local emergency preparedness and emergency response capacities through delivering Trauma courses, Basic Emergency Care and Mass Casualty Management trainings/courses
  • Strengthening  of trauma first aid & trauma care skills and knowledge amongst local first aid response stakeholders (State and non-State players, particularly the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement)
  • Ensure proper management of information collected, produce the subsequent reports and contribute to monitoring and evaluation

About you

To be successful as a Health Field Officer FAPHEC in the Health Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • Degree in medicine or nursing (emergency medical care) or degree in paramedicine science/paramedicine practice, or equivalent education in prehospital settings
  • Qualification as a trainer is an asset (e.g., First Aid instructor, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Emergo Training System (ETS)) is required
  • Typically 7 to 9 years of professional experience,  with at least 2 years of work experience in prehospital emergency medical care, trainings providings (e.g., First Aid, TCCC, BTLS, ATLS, ITLS, ETS), and/or emergency care program support4
  • Humanitarian experience as a Health Field Officer is an asset
  • Valid license to practice in Ukraine 
  • Fluent (written and spoken) in English and Ukrainian
  • Computer Literate
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
  • Confidence in managing projects and staff
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
