Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is seeking a qualified staff member for the Multi-Level Good Governance Cluster to fill the position of a:
Communication Advisor (full-time, Kyiv)
(internal SAP code: Advisor)
The Communication Advisor will support the overall work of the MLG Cluster with particular focus on “U-LEAD with Europe” project as well as a new programme EU4Reconstruction focusing on the nation-wide reconstruction process and the Strengthening Ukraine's EU Accession in the Rule of Law project. U-LEAD with Europe is a large-scale project that is dedicated to the empowerment of Ukraine’s municipalities since 2016. The EU4Reconstruction project will focus on accompanying the Ukrainian government in the process of the Ukrainian accession process into the European Union.
Key responsibilities:
- Steering the development and implementation of the communication strategy for the respective projects.
- Implementation and following up on daily operational aspects of all issues related to PR, as well as the external and internal communication of the overall projects.
- Drafting, editing, and reviewing a wide range of communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, reports, speeches, and internal communications
- Proofreading and ensuring quality of projects’ success stories for various internal and external online and offline channels, such as social media, websites, interviews, press releases, presentations etc.
- Developing clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences, including leadership, employees, stakeholders, and external partners
- Preparing communication briefs and presentations for senior management
- Serving as a primary point of contact for media inquiries and managing media relationships
- Drafting rapid response communication materials and managing communication flow during critical events
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including media representatives, community leaders, and internal teams
- Coordinating press conferences, media events, and other communication-focused activities
- Ensuring visibility & communication guidelines of the contracting authorities are respected by the whole project and its implementers
- Coordinating the visibility and communications outreach in close coordination with the management of the project
- Supporting the preparation of high-level visits and other events
- Coordinating visibility-related cooperation with project partners and external communication service providers (e.g. appraisers, agencies, photographers, trainers, copywriters)
Required qualifications, professional experience and personal competences:
- MA or post-graduate degree in Journalism, Communication or in a related field (Creative Writing, Marketing, Social Sciences etc.)
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
- Proven experience in managing communication and outreach activities of an organization in a similar international context
- Experience in liaising with stakeholders such as government officials, private actors, civil society and the press
- A strong network with media outlets and experience in organising media events
- Native written and spoken Ukrainian; excellent command of the English language; knowledge of German is an asset
- Knowledge of the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda, in the field of decentralisation
- Very good working knowledge of IT technologies (related software) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
- Team player with excellent intercultural competences
- Strong organisational, planning and managerial competences
- Excellent communication, writing, presentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexibly and independently, often under tight deadlines
- High degree of discretion, integrity and sense of tone
- Willingness to travel frequently within Ukraine

Employment conditions:
Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Kyiv. The contract duration will be 12 months with the possibility of prolongation.
